Udwarthanam is an Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure involving the use of powdered medicated drugs for deep tissue massage. The strokes are applied with pressure in the opposite direction of hair follicles, and it serves as a body toning program. The word “udwarthanam” signifies moving in an upward direction, contributing to external oleation (snehana) and fomentation (swedana) therapy. Typically lasting 30-45 minutes for 7-14 days, the procedure, guided by an Ayurvedic physician, aids in weight reduction, balances doshas, improves blood flow, and enhances skin complexion.
